Damaged have small holes and heavey polyurethane degradation. Water based spar urethane spray can create a new coating if restoring them.

Heavier than a poncho these things are gold!
I have used mine as a ground clothe, a tarp for my tent during the tail end of a typhoon (seriously) and an impromptu roof on my old Bronco when it started raining.
